About Visegrád Group
- The Visegrád Group, also called the Visegrad Four (V4).
- It is an informal intergovernmental forum and a cultural and political alliance.
- Member Countries: The group consists of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
- Origin: The group was created in 1991 when Polish, Czechoslovakian and Hungarian leaders met in Visegrád, Hungary to promote cooperation after the Warsaw Pact.
- In 1993, Czechoslovakia separated into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
- The group then became the Visegrad Four (V4).
- Aim: It aims to promote cooperation in military, economic, cultural and energy affairs and strengthen stability and cooperation in Central Europe.
- Governance: It takes decisions by consensus and has no permanent structures.
- Key Features:
- Regular Meetings: It conducts meetings among Heads of State, Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers and other ministers and officials.
- Rotating Presidency: The presidency changes every year, and the presidency sets the agenda for meetings.
- V4+ Format: The group can cooperate with EU and non-EU countries through formats known as “V4+”.
- Areas of Cooperation: Its cooperation covers culture, education, science and information exchange, along with wider economic, security and energy cooperation.
