About National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
- The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a one-stop platform that provides a range of scholarship-related services, including student applications, application processing, approval, sanction and disbursement of scholarships.
- It has been implemented as a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under Digital India.
- Nodal ministry: The nodal ministry is the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- Aim: It aims to provide a single platform for all scholarship-related services, from student application to the processing, sanction and direct disbursement of scholarships.
- Objective: It seeks to create a Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent (SMART) system for the faster and more effective processing of scholarship applications and the direct transfer of funds to beneficiaries’ accounts without leakages.
- Benefits
- Simplified process for students: It provides information on all available scholarships under a single platform and enables a single integrated application for different scholarships.
- Improved transparency: The system identifies and suggests scholarship schemes for which a student is eligible. It also helps reduce duplicate applications and processing to the maximum extent possible.
- Standardisation: It maintains master data on institutions and courses at the national level and also supports standardised scholarship processing.
- Decision Support System (DSS): It serves as a decision support system for ministries and departments by providing updated information whenever required.
- Monitoring and Management Information System (MIS): It provides a comprehensive MIS to monitor every stage of scholarship distribution, from student registration to the final delivery of funds.
