News: Recently, Canadian poet and writer Anne Carson won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.

- Canadian Poet Anne Carson is awarded the Nobel Prize In Literature 2026.
- She has been awarded for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.
- She is the 19th woman to win since 1901, and the second Canadian, after Alice Munro.
- About Anne Carson:
- Birth: She was born in Toronto in 1950.
- Education: She studied ancient Greek and went on to earn a PhD in classics from the University of Toronto.
- She has worked as a poet, essayist, translator and scholar, drawing heavily on the literature and mythology of ancient Greece.
- She has spent years teaching ancient Greek at universities like McGill, Princeton, and the University of Michigan
- Writing style: Her work often blends verse, prose, dialogue and translation in a genre-defying mix.
- Literary contribution: One of her best-known works is Autobiography of Red, a 1998 novel in verse inspired by the ancient Greek story of Geryon, a red-winged monster killed by Herakles.
- Carson’s most important book is her 2002 translation of Sappho, the ancient Greek poet who wrote nine books of lyrics.
- Other notable works: It includes Eros the Bittersweet (1986), Nox (2010), Float (2016) and Wrong Norma (2024).
- About Nobel Prize in Literature: The Swedish Academy gives the award.
- Reward: It carries a monetary reward of worth 12 million Swedish crowns ($1.2 million).
