About Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB)

- PNGRB is sector regulator for petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas, with a consumer-protection and market-development mandate under its Act.
- Established: It was constituted under The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006.
- Objective: Its It’s objective is to protect the interests of consumers and entities engaged in specified activities relating to petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas and to promote competitive markets and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
- Function: It regulate the refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing and sale of petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas excluding production of crude oil and natural gas.
- Board’s composition
- The Board has its seat in Delhi.
- It consists of one Chairperson, three Members, and one Member (Legal).
- Board’s Power
- Its orders are enforceable with powers akin to a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.
- It may review its own decisions through a Review Petition.
- Decisions of the Board are binding on parties of dispute.
- It’s decision can be challenged by way of an appeal in the Appellate Tribunal.
