News: Ministry of Textiles launched “Vishwa Sutra – Weaves of India for the World” to promote Indian handlooms globally through contemporary design framework.
About Vishwa Sutra Initiative

- It is an initiative to present Indian handlooms in a contemporary global design framework.
- Launched by: It has been launched by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technology.
- Objective: The initiative aims to expand the global reach and recognition of Indian handloom products through modern fashion interpretations.
- Key Features:
- Diverse Handloom Representation: Around 30 different weaves from across India are included, each representing a unique state tradition.
- Global Design Integration: Each weave is creatively reinterpreted using design inspirations from 30 countries, reflecting global cultures and modern fashion sensibilities.
- Continuity of Tradition: The initiative highlights the depth and continuity of handloom techniques preserved across generations
- Practical Representation: The designer collection was presented at the 61st edition of Femina Miss India in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, demonstrating real-world application of the concept.
- Significance: It supports “Vocal for Local to Global” and the 5F framework (Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign), strengthening India’s handloom sector globally.
