News: Scientists at the Natural History Museum in London, United Kingdom, have discovered a new species of wasp in Chile and named it Attenboroughnculus tau.

  • It is a tiny parasitic wasp discovered in Chile. 
  • It was collected from Chile’s Valdivia Province in 1983.
  • It has been named after the famed British naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. 
  • Features: 
    • Size: It is a small wasp, measuring about 3.5 millimetres.
    • It has a T-shaped marking on its abdomen that inspired the species name, “tau.”
    • It has a unique combination of anatomical features that make it different from already established genera.
    • It has a strongly curved abdominal segment, toothlike structures on the ovipositor (which they use to lay eggs), and distinctive wing and leg morphology.
