Aspects Description
About BRICS Indore Declaration is a Farmer-Centric Global Charter adopted by BRICS member countries during the 2026 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
AimIt aims at strengthening food security, farmer welfare, climate-resilient agriculture, agricultural trade and digital agriculture.
Focus It records a shared commitment to advance food security, nutrition, livelihoods, agricultural trade, innovation, investment, climate-resilient farming, and sustainable agricultural development with the farmer at its centre. 
Priorities of the DeclarationThe declaration has adopted four main priorities:

  1. Food security and nutritional security for BRICS countries and the world.
  2. Promotion of agricultural trade and cooperation among BRICS nations.
  3. Regenerative, climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices in response to climate change.
  4. Strengthening innovation, technology and partnerships in food systems and agriculture.
Institutional initiativesFour institutional initiatives have also been proposed. It includes:

  1. Centres of Excellence on Agro-Ecology and Regenerative Agriculture: Their establishment will create a platform for collaborative research, exchange of experiences, and capacity building in natural, organic, and regenerative farming practices.
    1. It will enable member countries to learn from one another’s best practices and promote climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
    2. In India, the Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (IIFSR), Modipuram, has been designated as a Centre of Excellence for natural farming under this network. The institute will contribute to joint research, knowledge exchange, and training activities.
  2. BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture:
    1. It aimed at strengthening cooperation in artificial intelligence, geospatial technologies, digital public infrastructure, and data-driven agricultural solutions.
    2. In India, IIT Delhi will serve as the coordinating institution for this network.
  3. Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights in Seed Systems: Creation of the Global Forum on Farmers’ Rights in Seed Systems will focus on safeguarding farmers’ seed rights, preserving indigenous seed diversity, and protecting traditional knowledge.
  4. BRICS AgriN (Agro Input, Genetic Resources and Information Network):
    1. It seeks to enhance collaboration among member countries in the areas of agricultural inputs, seeds, and genetic resources.
    2. It will facilitate information sharing, capacity building, technical cooperation, and partnerships, enabling countries to exchange knowledge on superior crop varieties, genetic resources, and agricultural inputs and develop practical solutions to common challenges.
