  • Sub-Orbital Launch Vehicle for Experiments (SOLVE) platform is a solid motor-based test platform developed to conduct Integrated Parachute Tests for validating the deceleration system of the Gaganyaan Crew Module.
  • Developed by: It is developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
  • Objective: To carry out Integrated Parachute Tests for validating the deceleration system of the Gaganyaan Crew Module under various test conditions.
  • Key Features:
    • Testing Process: During the test missions, the crew module is carried to an altitude of 10–17 km and separated from the vehicle.
    • Recovery System: A series of 10 parachutes is deployed to reduce the crew module’s velocity before splashdown in the sea.
    • Platform Design: The solid stage is derived from the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) Strap-on Motor with modifications to meet the Gaganyaan test requirements.
    • Technical Modifications: It includes a slow burn rate propellant and a straight nozzle with secondary injection thrust vector control.
  • Recent Tests Related to the Gaganyaan Mission:
    • Second Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-02): ISRO successfully conducted the second Integrated Air Drop Test as part of preparations for the Gaganyaan mission (IADT-01).
    • Mission MITRA: ISRO carried out Mission MITRA (Mapping of Interoperable Traits and Response Assessment) in Leh to study the behaviour and response of astronauts under mission conditions.

About Gaganyaan Mission
