News: Lucknow secured the top position in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan-2026 among cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.
About Swachh Vayu Survekshan-2026
- Swachh Vayu Survekshan is an annual assessment of 130 cities under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
- Initiative by: It is an initiative of the MoEFCC.
- Launch year: It was launched in 2022-23.
- Assessment components: The assessment covers measures addressing major pollution sources and implementation of City-specific Clean Air Action Plans.
- It promotes healthy competition, innovation and accelerated action among cities to improve air quality.
- Results of Swachh Vayu Survekshan-2026:
- Categories: The city wards are divided into three categories at National level:
- Category 1 Population > 30,000
- Category 2 with population between 10,000-30,000
- Category 3 with population < 10,000.
- Ward-level Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan carried out in more than 7,400 wards across the country.
- The 2026 Survekshan recognized 10 best-performing cities across these three categories.
- Category 1: Lucknow ranked first in this category.
- Category 2: Rourkela topped in this category.
- Category 3: Kalinganagar led in this category.
- Winners (Ward-wise):
- Ward 70 Lucknow ranked first in Category 1
- Ward 30 & 36 Bhubneshwar topped Category 2
- Ward 13 Rourkela led Category 3.
