News: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a distribution programme under RVY, providing 662 assistive devices to 114 senior citizens in Delhi-NCR.
About Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana

- The Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana is first of its kind scheme in the country for providing Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices for Senior citizens belonging to BPL category.
- It was launched on April 1, 2017.
- Objective: The scheme aims to improve the mobility, independence, dignity and quality of life of eligible senior citizens by providing suitable assistive devices.
- Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE)
- Implementing Agency: The scheme is implemented by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), a PSU under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
- Nature: It is a Central Sector Scheme, fully funded by the Central Government.
- Funding: The expenditure is met from the Senior Citizens’ Welfare Fund.
- Eligibility: Senior citizens belonging to the BPL category with monthly income not more than Rs. 15000 and suffering from age-related disability or infirmity are eligible.
- Assistive Devices: Free devices include walking sticks, hearing aids, wheelchairs, artificial dentures and spectacles, based on the disability or infirmity.
- Doorstep Support: Senior citizens aged 80 years or more receive devices at their doorstep.
