News: The Northern Bridge across the Dnipro river in Kyiv was hit during a Russian air attack, following recent drone strikes on the Southern Bridge.
About Dnipro River

- The Dnipro River is one of the major transboundary rivers of Europe.
- Naming: The river’s name varies by language – Dnepr in Russian, Dnipro in Ukrainian, and Dnyapro in Belarusian.
- Origin: The river originates in Russia, in the low Valday Hills, west of Moscow.
- Course of river: It runs a total length of 2,201 km through western Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine before emptying into the Black Sea.
- The river is fed by a combination of snowmelt, groundwater, and rain, and the seasonal fluctuations.
- Length: It is 2,200 km in length.
- Tributaries: It has approximately 32,000 tributaries, including notable ones such as the Sozh, Desna, Trubizh, Bilozerka, Drut, Berezina, and Prypiat.
- Cities: It passes through several urban centers, including Smolensk and Dorogobuzh in Russia; Mogilev in Belarus; and Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, and Zaporizhia in Ukraine.
- It is an important navigable waterway for the economy of Ukraine and is connected by the Dnieper–Bug Canal to other waterways in Europe.
