About Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) ‘Amini’

- Amini is an indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) of the Indian Navy.
- Builder: It has been designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
- Naming: The vessel is named after Amini Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
- It also continues the legacy of the erstwhile INS Amini, a Petya III-class anti-submarine warfare corvette that was decommissioned in 2002.
- Key Features:
- Propulsion: It is among the largest Indian naval warships propelled by waterjets.
- Advanced Weapon Systems: It is equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers and sonar systems to detect and engage underwater threats.
- Operational Capabilities: It will strengthen the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance and mine-laying capabilities.
- Indigenous Content: The vessel has over 80% indigenous content, reflecting the growing strength of India’s domestic defence manufacturing sector.
