A day after crash, DGCA issues advisory for Boeing 737 MAX 8

  1. Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) has issued safety guidelines for the operation of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.It was issued after Boeing aircraft belonging to Ethiopian Airlines crashed fuelling concern about passenger safety which has forced several countries to ground these jets.
  2. The safety guidelines issued are (a)Pilots should have at least 1,000 hours of flying experience to command these planes (b)engineering departments have been instructed not to release the planes for operations in case of dual failure of autopilot,faults in spoiler system and (c)stringent checks of the aircraft’s autopilot and stall management systems during long-transit stays.
  3. The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body aircraft series designed and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of the Boeing 737,succeeding the Boeing 737 Next Generation(NG).
  4. Directorate General of Civil Aviation is an attached office of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.It is the regulatory body in the field of Civil Aviation primarily dealing with safety issues.
  5. DGCA is responsible for (a)regulation of air transport services to/from/within India (b)enforcement of civil air regulations (c)air safety (d)airworthiness standards and (e)co-ordinates all regulatory functions with International Civil Aviation Organization.
