Aayushi Bansal- UPSC CSE Rank 7: Triumph of a Single-Parent Resilience
Aayushi Bansal’s remarkable achievement of securing ALL INDIA RANK 7 in UPSC CSE 2024 becomes even more inspiring when viewed through the lens of her journey as the daughter of a single mother. After losing her father, Aayushi’s mother, Smt. Radha Bansal, a Higher Grade Assistant at LIC, became both her anchor and inspiration, proving that determination and maternal support can overcome life’s toughest challenges.
The academic excellence that brought Aayushi to this moment was forged early- her perfect 10 CGPA in class 10 (Carmel Convent School, Gwalior) and stellar 96.8% in class 12th from DPS RK Puram laid the foundation for her journey to IIT Kanpur. She not only earned a B.Tech degree but also the prestigious Gold Medal for Best Graduating All-Rounder in 2020. At IITs where women remain underrepresented, Aayushi did not just excel academically, but she also pioneered the first female street play team and served as an elected Student Senator, creating safe spaces for female voices in traditionally male-dominated spheres.
Aayushi’s Career choices reflect a modern Indian woman’s agency, transitioning confidently from corporate roles at Goldman Sachs and McKinsey to pursuing public service. Her selection of Sociology as an optional subject and passion for Theater addressing social issues reveal a nuanced understanding of gender dynamics in Indian Society.
For aspiring young women across India, especially those from single-parent households, Aayushi stands as living proof that:
1. Educational Excellence is the great equalizer
2. Multiple career paths are available to today’s women
3. Perseverance (through three UPSC CSE attempts) triumphs over setbacks
4. Cultural Interests (like her love of theater) complement professional success
As Aayushi prepares to join the civil services, she carries forward her mother’s legacy of resilience while becoming a role model herself. Her journey sends a clear message to India’s daughters: with quality education, family support, and self-belief, they can claim their rightful place in shaping the nation’s future. In Aayushi’s story, we see the promise of a new India where women don’t just participate in systems of power- they redefine them.
Forum IAS wishes IAS Aayushi Bansal a stellar career filled with purpose, impact, and the power to uplift countless lives. May her brilliance, compassion, and unwavering determination light the path to transformative governance. Jai Hind!!!
