- A study published in the journal has found that Magnetic stimulation of the brain under repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) therapy improves working memory.
- This study may lead to a new therapy for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
- Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease. It is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behaviour.
- It is caused by the aggregation of the toxic protein. Neurons in the human brain make a protein called amyloid beta.Such proteins on their own, called monomers of amyloid beta, perform important tasks for neurons.
- The early signs of the disease may be forgetting recent events or conversations. As the disease progresses,a person with Alzheimer’s disease will develop severe memory impairment and lose the ability to carry out everyday tasks.
- There is no treatment that cures Alzheimer’s disease or alters the disease process in the brain. Current Alzheimer’s disease medications may temporarily improve symptoms or slow the rate of decline.
- Working memory is the process of recalling and then using relevant information while performing a task.It is a key component of day-to-day tasks like driving to a new location, making a recipe, or following instructions.
