News: The National Productivity Council signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to act as EADA under Environment Audit Rules, 2025.

  • It is a designated body responsible for managing and implementing the environmental audit framework in India.
  • Notified by: It is notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the Environment Audit Rules, 2025.
  • Designated Agency: The National Productivity Council (NPC) is appointed as the Environment Audit Designated Agency.
  • Objective: The main objective is to strengthen environmental compliance, enhance transparency, and institutionalize standardized environmental auditing practices across the country.
  • Key Functions:
    • Certification and Registration: It certifies and registers Certified Environmental Auditors and Registered Environmental Auditors with clear eligibility criteria.
    • Monitoring and Regulation: It monitors auditor performance and can issue directions, including suspension or cancellation when required.
    • Capacity Building: It conducts training programmes, workshops, seminars, and awareness initiatives to improve implementation.
    • Digital and Governance Role: It develops digital systems and maintains a publicly accessible register of auditors.

About National Productivity Council (NPC)

  • It is an autonomous, multipartite, non-profit organisation promoting productivity culture in India.
  • Ministry: It works under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
  • Established : It was established in 1958.
  • Objective: It aims to improve economic competitiveness through consultancy and training services.
  • Headquarter: Its headquarters is in New Delhi.
  • Function:
    • Consultancy and Training: It provides consultancy and capacity building services to government and other organisations.
    • Policy Support: It acts as a think tank and supports project monitoring and implementation.
