News: The Indian Air Force (IAF) concluded the week-long Exercise ROTOR CLAP III at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.
About Exercise ROTOR CLAP III

- It is a specialised weeklong helicopter exercise conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to validate mission planning, coordination, rapid response, and interoperability under simulated combat conditions.
- Edition: This is the 3rd edition of this exercise. Its first edition was held in 2019.
- Objective: The primary goal of the exercise was to assess and refine operational principles to address emerging aerial threats from unmanned systems.
- Theme: Its theme was “Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (Counter-UAS)”.
- Features
- The exercise brought together IAF helicopter units to enhance combat readiness and validate operational concepts against emerging aerial threats.
- The exercise involved a diverse range of IAF helicopters, including AH-64 Apache, Mi-25/35, and the indigenous LCH Prachand attack helicopters, as well as Chinook, Mi-17, and Dhruv transport and utility helicopters.
- It focused on improving the helicopter fleet’s capability to counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS) through integrated operations.
- Helicopters carried out precision strikes, reconnaissance, troop insertion, casualty evacuation, battlefield support, and coordinated combat missions in realistic scenarios.
