News: India inducted ICGS Akshay, a new-generation indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel, into the Indian Coast Guard at Goa Shipyard Limited in Goa.
About ICGS Akshay

- Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Akshay is a 52-m-long indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel built to strengthen India’s maritime security capabilities.
- Naming: The vessel is named Akshay, which means “Indestructible.”
- Built by: The vessel has been built by Goa Shipyard Limited under the Indian Coast Guard’s fleet modernization programme.
- Vessel Belongs to: The vessel belongs to the Adamya-class patrol vessel series of eight ships.
- Under this project, ICGS Adamya, ICGS Akshar, and ICGS Amulya have already been inducted into the Indian Coast Guard.
- Operates under: The vessel operates under the Indian Coast Guard.
- Mission: The vessel will conduct Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance, fisheries protection, coastal patrol, anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, humanitarian assistance, and support mariners in distress.
- Key Features:
- Indigenous Content: The vessel carries more than 65% indigenous content, reflecting India’s growing shipbuilding capability.
- Propulsion System: It is the first class of Indian Coast Guard vessels equipped with advanced Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP)-based propulsion technology.
- Power and Capacity: The vessel is powered by two 3,000 kW diesel engines, has a 320-tonne displacement, and is manned by six officers and 35 sailors.
- Weapon Systems: It is equipped with a 30mm Close Range Naval (CRN)-91 naval gun and two 12.7 mm stabilized remote-controlled machine guns for maritime security operations.
