About India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI)

  • It is a national-level benchmarking tool designed to:
    • Evaluate the progress of States/UTs in adopting electric mobility.
    • Compare inter-state performance across various dimensions.
    • Guide States/UTs toward more effective EV-related policy interventions.
  • Developed by: NITI Aayog
  • Objective: To align sub-national efforts with India’s Net-Zero emissions target by 2070.

Core themes & evaluation criteria

  • Coverage: All Indian States and Union Territories (UTs)
  • Scoring: Each State/UT is scored out of 100, based on 16 performance indicators
  • Themes assessed (3 Core Categories):
    • Transport Electrification Progress- Tracks the adoption of electric vehicles across passenger, freight, and public transport segments.
    • Charging Infrastructure Readiness- Assesses availability of EV charging stations and supporting policy framework
    • EV Research and Innovation Ecosystem- Evaluates R&D, manufacturing capacity, and innovation in electric mobility components.

Significance of the IEMI:
