About India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI)
- It is a national-level benchmarking tool designed to:
- Evaluate the progress of States/UTs in adopting electric mobility.
- Compare inter-state performance across various dimensions.
- Guide States/UTs toward more effective EV-related policy interventions.
- Developed by: NITI Aayog
- Objective: To align sub-national efforts with India’s Net-Zero emissions target by 2070.
Core themes & evaluation criteria
- Coverage: All Indian States and Union Territories (UTs)
- Scoring: Each State/UT is scored out of 100, based on 16 performance indicators
- Themes assessed (3 Core Categories):
- Transport Electrification Progress- Tracks the adoption of electric vehicles across passenger, freight, and public transport segments.
- Charging Infrastructure Readiness- Assesses availability of EV charging stations and supporting policy framework
- EV Research and Innovation Ecosystem- Evaluates R&D, manufacturing capacity, and innovation in electric mobility components.
Significance of the IEMI:
- Identifies top-performing and underperforming States/UTs.
- Encourages healthy competition and the sharing of best practices across regions.
- Enables evidence-based, data-driven policymaking at the sub-national level.
