  • ‘Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security’ is an international initiative for 6G telecommunications networks.
  • Launched by: The initiative was launched by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) under the US Commerce Department.
  • Partner nations: The initiative has 26 partner countries, including India and the United States.
  • Objective: It seeks to ensure that 6G networks reflect shared security interests, strengthen competitiveness and drive innovation.
  • Key Features:
    • Network security: It aims to ensure that next-generation networks reflect shared security interests.
    • Interoperability: It promotes interoperability so that 6G networks can function effectively across different countries and systems.
    • Resilience: It aims to make 6G infrastructure resilient, so that next-generation networks can remain reliable and robust.
    • Trusted AI: It promotes the use of trusted artificial intelligence in developing and operating 6G infrastructure.
    • Competitiveness and innovation: It seeks to strengthen competitiveness and drive innovation in 6G development.

About Bharat 6G Mission

  • Bharat 6G Mission is India’s initiative to develop next-generation wireless communication capabilities.
  • Objective: It aims to make India a leading global supplier of affordable 6G intellectual property, products and solutions.
  • Phases: The mission will be implemented in two phases, covering 2023–2025 and 2025–2030.
    • Phase 1: It supports new ideas, use cases, intellectual property (IP) and testbeds through research and government support.
    • Phase 2: It focuses on developing globally viable concepts and use cases and commercializing IPs, prototypes and testbeds.
  • Apex Council: The Government has appointed an Apex Council to oversee the Bharat 6G Mission.
    • Standardization: It focuses on 6G standardization and identification of spectrum for 6G use.
    • Ecosystem: It works to create an ecosystem for 6G devices and systems.
    • Finance: It addresses the financing of research and development.
    • Technology: It focuses on technologies such as Terahertz communication, radio interfaces, tactile internet, AI for connected intelligence, new encoding methods, waveforms and chipsets.
