The Union Minister for Steel and Civil Aviation recently unveiled India’s first Green Hydrogen Plant in the Stainless Steel Sector.

About the Project

1. Location– It is situated at Jindal Stainless Limited in Hisar.

2. Commissioned by– Hygenco and Jindal Stainless.

3. Distinct feature:
a.
This project will be the world’s first off-grid Green Hydrogen plant for the stainless steel industry.
b. It will also be the first Green Hydrogen facility with rooftop and floating solar installations.
c. It is a state-of-the-art initiative aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions. It aims to reduce about 2,700 metric tonnes annually and 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next twenty years.

What is the Significance of this Project?

1. This green hydrogen project aligns well with the government’s goal for a cleaner and sustainable future.

2. It will help in the government’s vision to prioritize green growth and achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

What is Green hydrogen?

1. Green hydrogen is generated by using renewable energy sources like wind or solar power to electrolyze water, separating hydrogen from oxygen in the process.

2. Unlike traditional methods that rely on fossil fuels, green hydrogen production emits zero greenhouse gases, making it a clean and sustainable energy source.
