About India’s first eVTOL aircraft – e200X

- Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft are battery-powered aircraft that can take off and land vertically before transitioning to forward flight.
- The e200X is a specific eVTOL aircraft being developed in India for advanced air mobility.
- It is a three-seater, zero-emission aircraft.
- It is designed for one pilot and two passengers.
- Developed by: In India, the e200X is developed by Ubifly Technologies Private Limited (The ePlane Company), Chennai.
- Financial Support: The Technology Development Board (TDB) approved ₹285 crore under the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund.
- Funding Mode: The support will be provided through Optionally Convertible Debentures (OCD).
- The project has a total approved cost of ₹570 crore.
- Key Features:
- Working Mechanism: The aircraft can take off and land vertically using electric propulsion before switching to forward flight.
- Performance: It has a targeted range of 110 km and an ideal speed of 160 kmph.
- Indigenous Technology: It uses vertical rotors, forward propellers, flight-control algorithms, power-distribution controllers and battery-pack modules with integrated cooling systems.
- Landing System: Its landing gear supports both conventional and vertical landing, providing operational flexibility.
- Technology Development: The project aims to advance the aircraft from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 to TRL 9 through further testing, validation and scale-up.
- Applications: It is intended for advanced air mobility, including emergency medical services, airport transfers and urban passenger transport.
