News: The Supreme Court directed additional safeguards to protect the Jojari River ecosystem from pollution and industrial activities.
About Jojari River

- Origin: It originates in Pandalu village, Nagaur district, Rajasthan.
- Course of the River: It passes through Jodhpur and joins the Luni River near Balotra.
- It is a seasonal river.
- Tributary of: It is the only right-bank tributary of the Luni River.
- Unlike the other tributaries of the Luni River, the Jojari River does not originate from the Aravalli Range.
- Biodiversity: Wildlife and desert vegetation in the Dhawa-Doli area have declined with increasing pollution.
- Pollution: Chemical-laden water from Jodhpur’s textile and steel industries flows into the river.
- Pollution has affected the health of people, agriculture, land, flora and fauna.
- Supreme Court Intervention: Recently, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of contamination and industrial pollution in the Jojari River.
- It also considered their impact on the Jojari-Bandi-Luni river ecosystem.
- The Court directed that no hazardous industry or polluting activity shall be permitted within 500 metres of either side of the existing flood line or present flow path.
