News: India added Glaw Lake as Arunachal Pradesh’s first Ramsar Site, located within Kamlang Tiger Reserve, raising India’s total Ramsar Sites to 101.
About Kamlang Tiger Reserve

- Kamlang Tiger Reserve is a protected area in Arunachal Pradesh and forms part of the Eastern Himalayan Biodiversity Hot Spot.
- Location: It is located in the southeastern part of Lohit District in Arunachal Pradesh near the border with Myanmar.
- Bounded by: It is bounded by Namdapha National Park in the south, the Lang River in the north, the Lati River in the west, and the Tawe River in the east.
- Naming: It is named after the Kamlang River, which flows through the reserve and joins the Brahmaputra.
- Establishment: It was established as Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary in 1989.
- Status: It is the 50th Tiger Reserve of India and was declared an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) in 2024.
- Topography: It includes dense tropical forests, grasslands, rivers, and hills.
- Vegetation: It has tropical wet evergreen forests in the lower areas and subtropical, temperate, and alpine vegetation in higher elevations.
- Flora: The reserve has more than 150 tree species and 49 orchid species, including Amoora wallichii, Gmelina arborea, Terminalia chebula, and Canarium resiniferum.
- Fauna: It supports tigers, snow leopards, clouded leopards, leopards, elephants, hoolock gibbons, slow lorises, giant squirrels, flying squirrels, hornbills, deer, wild boar, and other wildlife.
- Indigenous Community: The Mishmi, Digaro Mishmi, Miju Mishmi, Hishmi, Digaru, and Mizo communities live around the reserve.
