News: The NCC’s ‘Aparajita – Parang La 2026’ expedition was flagged-in at Karzok, Ladakh on September 16, 2026.
About Parang La
- Parang La is a high-altitude mountain pass in the Trans-Himalayas.
- Connects: It connects the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh with the Changthang region of Ladakh.
- Historical Significance: It was a traditional trade route between Spiti and Ladakh.
- Key Features:
- Terrain: The trail passes through glaciers, snowfields, river valleys, deep gorges and arid landscapes.
- Altitude: It has an elevation of around 5,600 m.
- Rivers Association: It serves as the source area of the Pare Chu River (Parang River), which originates in Himachal Pradesh.
- It flows into Tibet and then re-enters India in Ladakh/Spiti.
