News: More than 500 electric buses are operational across 23 cities, with daily ridership crossing one lakhunder PM e-Bus Sewa.
About PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme
- PM-eBus Sewa Scheme is a scheme to strengthen the urban transport system by deploying 10,000 air-conditioned electric buses in eligible cities.
- Implementing Agency: It is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
- Launched in: It was launched in August 2023.
- Duration: The scheme will support bus operations for 10 years.
- Key Features:
- Central Assistance: The scheme provides ₹20,000 crore in Central Assistance for bus operations and deployment under the scheme.
- Execution Model: Bus operations will follow the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
- States or cities will run services and make payments to bus operators.
- Eligibility:
- Demographics: The scheme covers cities with a population between 3 lakh and 40 lakh, as per Census 2011.
- Special Geographies: It includes all capital cities of Union Territories, the North-Eastern Region, and Hill States, even if their population is below 3 lakh.
- Two Segments: Segment 1 covers 169 cities with 10,000 e-buses and infrastructure.
- Segment 2 covers 181 cities through green urban mobility initiatives.
- Infrastructure: The scheme covers depots, charging infrastructure, substations, bus priority, multimodal interchange facilities, and automated fare collection systems.
- Passenger Facilities: It includes accessible bus stops, last-mile connectivity, Intelligent Transit Management System (ITMS), National Common Mobility Card (NCMC)-based ticketing, wheelchair provisions, and CCTV cameras.
