News: Over 60,000 schools participated in a nationwide screening of an orientation module on inclusive education through the PRASHAST portal.
About PRASHAST Platform

- PRASHAST stands for Pre-Assessment Holistic Screening Tool.
- It is a government initiative that helps identify, support, and track children with special educational needs, from early screening to inclusive education.
- Origin: It was launched in September 2022 and upgraded to PRASHAST 2.0 in late 2025.
- Developed by: It was developed by the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT.
- Enabling Acts and Policies: It aligns with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- Aim: It aims to identify children with probable disabilities at an early stage, support timely referrals for formal assessment, and promote inclusive education.
- Key Features:
- Two-Part Screening: Part I enables regular teachers to screen students using observable indicators.
- Part II allows special educators, counsellors, or school heads to conduct further screening and validate initial findings.
- Coverage of Disabilities: It provides checklists for all 21 disability conditions recognised under the RPwD Act, 2016.
- Digital Integration: It integrates with national data sources such as UDISE+, APAAR ID, and the Swavlamban Card Portal to track enrolment, screening, and interventions.
- Reporting and Referrals: It generates standardized school-level reports to document screening and support the formal disability certification process.
