News: Project BRAHMANK of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 16th Raising Day on 29 June 2026 at Ranaghat, Arunachal Pradesh.

About Project BRAHMANK

Project BRAHMANK is a specialized engineering and infrastructure development unit that builds and maintains strategic infrastructure in frontier areas.
Operates under: It operates under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Establishment: The project was set up in June 2011 at Ranaghat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and became operational in December 2011.
Area of Responsibility: It develops and maintains strategic road infrastructure across the Siang, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang and Shi-Yomi districts of Arunachal Pradesh, along with parts of Dhemaji district in Assam.
Infrastructure Portfolio: It maintains 811 km of strategic roads, around 86 bridges, and also develops helipads to strengthen regional connectivity.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is India’s leading infrastructure agency for constructing and maintaining roads and other strategic infrastructure in high-altitude, snow-bound and extremely challenging terrains.
Institutional Framework: It functions as an executive force under the Ministry of Defence and operates under the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB).
Genesis: It was established in May 1960 with Project Vartak in the East and Project Beacon in the North.
- At present, it operates 18 field projects across 11 States and 3 Union Territories.
Mandate and Core Functions: It develops and maintains strategic border infrastructure to ensure all-weather connectivity and strengthen defence preparedness.
- It also serves as a first responder during disasters.
