News: The Indian Army launched ‘Bharat Rice’ on October 12, 2026, to improve ration quality and strengthen military logistics.
About Bharat Rice
- The Indian Army launched the Bharat Rice initiative in New Delhi.
- Agencies involved: The Directorate General of Supplies and Transport is leading the initiative with support from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) and the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
- Objective: It aims to improve ration quality based on sustained feedback from Army personnel.
- The rice will be milled to prescribed defence specifications and supplied through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) during the financial year 2026-27.
- It will contain minimal broken, damaged and discoloured rice grains, with no foreign matter or admixtures.
- Rice will reach Army Supply Depots directly, including those in Ladakh and the North East, reducing the need to collect supplies from local FCI facilities.
