- Developed by: The seed was developed through a collaboration between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research–Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR-IIMR) and Gourmet Popcornica, an Indian enterprise.
- Hybrid Varieties: The research has produced two hybrid varieties – Krisna459 and Godari234.
- Key Features:
- Cross-breeding: The hybrids are developed through conventional cross-breeding methods.
- Non-GMO Nature: They do not contain artificially inserted foreign genetic traits.
- This makes them suitable for global food processing sectors that mandate non-GMO ingredients.
- Indigenous Hybrid Technology: The seed provides an Indian alternative to imported hybrid seed technology for high-quality popcorn maize and can help reduce India’s dependence on such imports.
