News: The Union Ministry of Education released the Report on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2025-26on school education in India.

- The UDISE+ 2025-26 report presents the status of school education in India and provides data on teachers, enrolment, retention, infrastructure, and other key school education indicators.

- Key Highlights:
- Increase in Teachers: The number of teachers increased by 8.3% compared to 2022-23, improving teacher availability.
- Improved Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR): The PTR improved to 10, 12, 17, and 21 at the foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary levels respectively, which is better than the NEP recommended ratio of 30:1.
- Better Student Retention and Lower Dropouts: Between 2024-25 and 2025-26, dropout rates declined to 1.8% at the preparatory level and 7.0% at the secondary level, while retention improved at the middle and secondary stages.
- Higher Enrolment and Transition: The secondary Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) increased from 68.5% to 71.7%, and transition rates improved across all major stages of schooling.
- Fewer Single-Teacher and Zero-Enrolment Schools: Single-teacher schools declined by around 3%, while zero-enrolment schools reduced by around 29%.
- Improved Digital and Basic Infrastructure: Schools with computer access (69.9%), internet connectivity (67.4%), and basic infrastructure such as electricity, drinking water, toilets, handwashing facilities, libraries, and ramps with handrails recorded improvements.
- Greater Female Representation: Women formed 54.9% of the teaching workforce, while girls’ enrolment increased to 48.4% in 2025-26.
