Sabarimala: SC rejects Kerala plea on cases

  1. Sabarimala issue, pending before the Kerala High Court, to the Supreme Court.
  2. The petitions filed in the Kerala High Court had raised objections about the deployment of police forces and imposition of Section 144 CrPC (Power to issue order in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger) to restrain agitators and grant safe passage to women pilgrims at Sabarimala.
  3. The Sabarimala temple is a Hindu temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. In recent months, the Sabarimala has witnessed violent protests against 2018 Supreme Court judgement.
  4. The Supreme Court had ruled that women, irrespective of age, can enter Kerala’s Sabarimala temple. Previously, girls and women in the 10-50 age group were prohibited from entering the Sabarimala temple.
