News: Tragedy struck in Sundargarh district, Odisha when three minor girls drowned in the Sankh River while making preparations for the Karma Puja.
About Sankh River

- The Sankh River flows across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
- It is part of Brahmani River system.
- Origin: It starts from Gumla district in Jharkhand and flows 67.5 km in the state before entering Chhattisgarh.
- Course of river: It runs a distance of about 50 km in Chhattisgarh and enters Jharkhand again to flow for another 78 km.
- It finally enters Odisha and merges with the Koel river.
- Sankh and the Koel river join at Vedavyasa near Rourkela in Sundargarh district of Odisha to form a major river called the Brahmani.
- Total length: Its total length is about 240 km.
- Waterfall: The Sadni falls (60 m) falls on Sankh River at the edge of Ranchi plateau.
