News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a High-Powered Task Force to reform the examination system and improve the credibility of future competitive examinations.
About High-Powered Task Force for Education Sector
- High-Powered Task Force for Education Sector is a six-member panel constituted to recommend technology-driven and structural reforms in India’s examination system.
- Announced by: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the constitution of the High-Powered Task Force.
- Led by: The task force is chaired by Nandan Nilekani.
- Objective:
- Examination Reforms: The task force will recommend reforms to make examinations trustworthy, transparent, and credible.
- Technology-driven System: It will promote maximum use of technology, including digital infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence, encryption, authentication, and monitoring.
- Institutional Improvements: It will recommend structural reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA) and improve governance, accountability, operational efficiency, and leak-proof examination processes.
- Panel Composition:
- Nandan Nilekani: He is the Infosys co-founder and the architect of Aadhaar, and he chairs the task force.
- S. Somanath: He is the former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
- Tapan Deka: He is the former Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
- V. Kamakoti: He is the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.
- Anita Karwal: She is the former Education Secretary.
- Amrit Lal Meena: He is a logistics expert and a former civil servant.
