News: The Ministry of Rural Development will commence DDU-GKY 2.0 training batches across most States and Union Territories from October 2026.
About Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0
- The DDU-GKY 2.0 provides placement-linked skill training to poor rural youth.
- Origin: DDU-GKY was launched in 2014 by the Ministry of Rural Development.
- DDU-GKY 2.0 is its second edition.
- Type of Scheme: It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- Part of: It is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).
- Eligibility: Rural youth aged 15–35 years are eligible.
- While Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), women, Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) can be covered up to 45 years.
- Social Coverage: The scheme mandates coverage of 50% SC/ST, 15% minorities and 33% women.
- Training Duration: The duration of skill training ranges from 3 to 12 months, depending on the course.
- Key Features of DDU-GKY 2.0
- Targets have been allocated to all 31 participating States and Union Territories for the 2026–28 period.
- 5.6 lakh rural youth targets across more than 1,200 projects have been allocated by 24 States and Union Territories, while other States are at advanced stages of allocation.
- Digital Portal: The integrated portal supports the end-to-end project lifecycle, digital monitoring, transparency and greater efficiency.
- Online Payments: Integration with State Treasury Portals will facilitate online payments through the Grameen Kaushal Portal.
- Regional Workshops: Hybrid workshops will be organised at Shillong, Vijayawada, Mumbai and Dharamshala during October 2026 to familiarise Project Implementing Agencies with the digital platform.
