News: Leopards are commonly found in Kalagarh Tiger Reserve and Amangarh Tiger Reserve, but now they are seen beyond traditional forest boundaries increasing chance of human animal conflict.
About Kalagarh Tiger Reserve
- Location: It is situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
- Formation: In 1974, when Project Tiger was launched in India, the Northern part of Jim Corbett was named as Kalagarh Tiger Reserve (KTR).
- Area: It spread in over an area of 301.18 sq km which also includes Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, along with Jim Corbett National Park.
- Rivers associated: Ramganga River river flows through the reserve.
- Flora: Common trees found in the reserve include sal, sheesham, semal, bakli, haladu, tun, sain, fig, and bamboo. The area also has many medicinal plants.
- Fauna: It has a high population of tigers, leopards, and other members of the cat family.
- Many species of deer are also found here, such as chital, barking deer, goral, sambar, and hog deer. Elephants can also be seen in herds in different parts of the reserve.
