  • Royal Army of Oman Contingent for Joint Exercise Al NAJAH-IV Arrive in India

    What is the News?

    The 4th Edition of India Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ is scheduled to take place at the Foreign Training Node of Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (Rajasthan).

    What is Exercise AL NAJAH-IV?

    It is a joint military exercise between India and Oman.

    Aim: To enhance the level of defence co-operation between the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman.

    Other exercises between India and Oman:

    Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr(sea breeze): It is a naval exercise between the Indian Navy and Oman.

    Exercise Eastern Bridge: It is an Air Force exercise held between India and Oman.

  • Joint exercise “Ex Vinbax 2022” with the Vietnamese people’s army to commence

    What is the News?

    The 3rd Edition of Vietnam India Bilateral Army Exercise “Ex VINBAX 2022” is scheduled to be conducted at Chandimandir,Haryana.

    About Exercise VINBAX 2022

    It is a bilateral military exercise between India and Vietnam.

    Purpose: The exercise is commonly defined as the India and Vietnam army’s collaboration, which helps reinforce the India-Vietnam defence and security cooperation and endorses India-Vietnam relations.

    Theme of the exercise: “E​​mployment and deployment of an Engineer Company and a Medical Team as part of United Nations Contingent for Peacekeeping Operations”. 

    About India-Vietnam defence relations

    India and Vietnam signed a protocol on defence cooperation in 1994. The partnership was thereafter elevated to a strategic level in 2007.

    A pact on boosting bilateral defence cooperation was also signed in 2009.

    The strategic partnership was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 and defence cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership. 

    Vietnam is also an important partner in India’s Act East policy and the Indo-Pacific vision.

  • Maritime Partnership Exercise Between Indian Navy And Japan Maritime Self Defense Force In The Andaman Sea

    What is the News?

    A Maritime Partnership Exercise(MPX) was conducted between Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and Indian Navy in the Andaman Sea.

    About the Exercise

    India and Japan have been carrying out regular exercises in the Indian Ocean Region(IOR) towards reinforcing maritime association. 

    The exercises were aimed at enhancing interoperability and streamlining seamanship and communication procedures. 

    From the Indian side, INS Sukanya, an offshore patrol vessel participated in the exercise.

    What are the other exercises between India and Japan?

    DHARMA GUARDIAN: It is an annual military exercise between India and Japan since 2018.

    SHINYUU Maitri: It is a bilateral exercise between the Indian Air Force and the Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF).

    JIMEX: It is a bilateral maritime exercise between India and Japan.

    Sahayog-Kaijin: Joint bilateral exercise between the Indian Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard.

  • Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise Ex Khaan Quest 2022 culminates in Mongolia
    What is the News?

    The Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise Ex Khaan Quest 2022 culminated at the Peace Support Operations Training Centre at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.

    What is Exercise Khaan Quest?

    Exercise Khaan Quest is a multinational exercise co-sponsored by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and hosted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces.

    Aim: To enhance interoperability, build a military to military relationships, developing peace support operations and military readiness among participating nations. 

    Participating Countries: The exercise saw participation from military contingents from 16 countries. India is one of the participating countries.

    ​​The Indian Army was represented by a contingent from the LADAKH SCOUTS.

    Other Exercises between India and Mongolia

    Exercise Nomadic Elephant: It is a joint military exercise between India and Mongolia.

  • INDO-BANGLADESH BILATERAL EXERCISE “EX SAMPRITI-X” CONCLUDES AT JASHORE, BANGLADESH
    What is the News?

    Indo-Bangladesh bilateral Joint Military Exercise “Ex SAMPRITI-X” concluded at Jashore Military Station, Bangladesh.

    What is Exercise SAMPRITI?

    Conducted between: India and Bangladesh

    Type: Military Exercise

    Hosted by: The exercise is hosted alternately by both countries. 

    Aim: To strengthen the military relations between the two countries.

    Significance: The exercise will provide an opportunity for the contingents from both the Armies to understand each other’s tactical drills and operational techniques. It will enable them to share their experience in Counter-Terrorism, Peace Keeping and Disaster Relief Operations.

  • Indian Navy – Bangladesh Navy Bilateral EX Bongosagar Commences
    What is the News?

    The third edition of Indian Navy (IN) – Bangladesh Navy (BN) Bilateral Exercise ‘Bongosagar’ commenced at Port Mongla, Bangladesh.

    What is Excercise Bonosagar?

    Aim: To develop a high degree of interoperability and joint operational skills through the conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations between the two navies.

    Edition: Its first edition was held in 2019. The present one is the third edition of Bonosagar.

    Type: maritime exercise.

    The harbour phase of the exercise includes professional and social interactions, and friendly sporting fixtures, in addition to the tactical level planning discussions on the conduct of the exercises at sea.

    The sea phase of the exercise would facilitate ships from both the navies to participate in intensive surface warfare drills, weapon firing drills, seamanship evolutions and coordinated air operations in a tactical scenario.

  • 20TH EDITION OF INDIA FRANCE NAVAL EXERCISE VARUNA – 2022
    What is the News?

    The 20th edition of the Bilateral Naval Exercise between Indian and French Navies – ‘VARUNA’ is being conducted in the Arabian Sea.

    What is Exercise Varuna?

    Type: Bilateral Naval Exercise 

    Countries Involved: India and France.

    Started in: 1993.

    The exercise was named ‘VARUNA’ in 2001.

    Aim: To develop interoperability between the two navies. Further, it aims to foster mutual cooperation by learning from each other’s best practices to conduct joint operations.

    What are the other exercises between India and France?

    Exercise Garuda: It is a bilateral exercise between the Indian and French Air Force. The first edition of the exercise was held in 2003.

    Exercise SHAKTI: It is a biennial military exercise conducted between India and France. It was first conducted in the year 2011.

    Exercise La Pérouse: It is a multilateral maritime exercise led by the French Navy. The Indian Navy participated in this exercise for the first time in 2021.

  • IONS MARITIME EXERCISE 2022 (IMEX 22)
    What is the News?

    The maiden edition of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium(IONS) Maritime Exercise 2022 (IMEX-22) was conducted at Goa and in the Arabian Sea.

    What is IMEX-22?

    It is a maiden maritime exercise of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium(IONS).

    Aim: To enhance interoperability in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations among member navies.

    Participating Countries: The exercise witnessed participation of 15 out of the 25 member nations of IONS. 

    The exercise comprised a Harbour Phase at Marmugao port, Goa, followed by a Sea Phase in the Arabian Sea.

    Significance: The exercise is seen as a significant stepping stone for regional navies to collaborate and respond collectively to natural disasters in the region, and paves the way for further strengthening regional cooperation.

  • INDO-UZBEKISTAN JOINT EXERCISE “EX DUSTLIK” CONCLUDES AT YANGIARIK IN UZBEKISTAN
    What is the News?

    The 3rd edition of Indo-Uzbekistan Joint Field Training Exercise “EX DUSTLIK” concluded at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan.

    What is Exercise DUSTLIK?

    Conducted between: It is a joint training exercise between India and Uzbekistan armies.

    First Edition: 2019 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan

    Aim: To enhance the level of defence cooperation between both the Armies and to act as a catalyst for many such joint programs in future.

    Focus of the exercise: It will focus on Counter-Terrorism operations in semi-urban terrain under a United Nations Mandate.

    What are the other exercises between India and Central Asian Countries?

    Exercise KAZIND: It is an annual military exercise between India and Kazakhstan army.
    Exercise KHANJAR: It is a joint military training exercise between India and Kyrgyzstan.

  • INDIAN MILITARY CONTINGENT ARRIVES AT SEYCHELLES FOR JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE LAMITIYE
    What is the News?

    An Indian Army contingent arrived in Seychelles on Monday for the ninth edition of the Joint Military Exercise Lamitiye 2022.

    What is Exercise Lamitiye?

    Exercise Lamitiye, which means friendship, is a biennial military exercise between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces(SDF). 

    The exercise has been conducted in Seychelles since 2001.

    Objective: To build and promote bilateral military relations in addition to exchanging skills, experiences and good practices between both armies.

    The exercise will include field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations and culminate with a two days validation exercise.

    Significance of the exercise: The exercise will enhance the level of defence cooperation between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces(SDF) and will further manifest in enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries.
